Twilio.org Impact Fund: Fueling positive change

The Twilio.org Impact Fund13 is dedicated to empowering social impact organizations by providing strategic funding that enables them to adopt digital solutions and expand their reach. Our investments are centered around three core social impact priorities: promoting long-term wellbeing, scaling humanitarian aid, and addressing climate change. These priorities underscore our belief in the transformative power of digital technology to drive meaningful change for individuals and their communities.

We allocate capital to nonprofit organizations and social enterprises that align with our social impact priorities across five funding cohorts:

  • Digital Innovation Cohort

Organizations accelerating social impact using transformative digital communications technology at scale.

  • Climate Action Cohort

Organizations working to educate and engage citizens to take climate action through digital education and awareness.

  • Humanitarian (Crisis Response) Cohort

Organizations committed to supporting the needs of people displaced by crises, a need that is growing in tandem with climate change.

  • WePledge Grant Cohort

Partnerships that activate employees to support the causes they care most about through volunteering and donating.
  • Commit to San Francisco Grant Cohort

Organizations working to prevent youth homelessness in the Bay Area through upskilling, workforce development, and support for housing stability.

Spotlight on Climate Action Cohort

In 2024 we launched the Climate Tech Prize as the centerpiece of our Climate Action Cohort, recognizing the urgent need for greater innovation and investment in solutions that strengthen community resilience. As climate-related disasters grow more severe, scalable approaches are essential to meet today’s challenges and prepare for those ahead.

Disaster-prone frontline communities are experiencing the most severe impacts of climate change, making technology a critical tool for building their resilience. From real-time monitoring and predictive modeling to early warning systems, modern technology plays a vital role in helping communities prepare for and respond to climate-related risks. Technology also expands access to financial tools, like specialized insurance, to support those most vulnerable.

To help scale and expand access to these solutions, we invested $1 million to support technological innovations that strengthen climate resilience. This funding aims to accelerate the pace of innovation and develop tech-driven approaches that address both the current and future challenges of climate-related displacement and migration.

Out of over 400 applications from both nonprofit and for-profit organizations across more than 55 countries, we selected five winning organizations. The winning organizations - ClimaSens, One Acre Fund, Gravity Water, NAXA, and Blue Marble - represent diverse geographical regions and sectors, underscoring our belief that tackling the climate crisis requires global collaboration. Award winners demonstrate how technological innovation and collaborative approaches can help communities better prepare and adapt to climate challenges.

Accelerating innovation with Twilio.org’s Customer Acceleration Fund

The 2024 State of Nonprofit Digital Engagement Report showed that 87% of nonprofits agree that digital communications like text messaging, chatbots, voice, and video are critical to achieving their missions. Yet, when asked what the challenges are to adopting digital communications, the top two barriers cited are lack of technical talent and insufficient budget.

We continuously aim to build the technical capacity of nonprofits, acknowledging the role digital communications play in achieving their missions. In 2024, Twilio.org launched the Customer Acceleration Fund (CAF) to increase an organization's technical capacity through consultative services. We selected a partner from our network of 30+ participating technology partners, and provided up to $25,000 to design and/or implement a solution tailored to the nonprofit’s specific needs. Twilio.org selected seven nonprofits as recipients in 2024: UNICEF Mexico, Carina, Plentiful, Arfus, Bright by Text, Islamic Relief USA and Fairfax County.

The CAF is now accepting applications from eligible nonprofits and public sector organizations for the 2025 calendar year. Find out how you can unlock up to $40,000 in funding for a digital project.
