Twilio.org pioneered the WePledge program to engage employees in doing good. Twilions pledge 1% of their time or financial resources toward causes they care about, and Twilio provides matching funds and volunteer time off.
To encourage Twilions to live their pledge, we provide each employee with $500 in matching donations annually, ongoing community service opportunities, and 20 hours of paid volunteer time off through our WePledge program. We also make it easy for employees to donate a portion of their vested company equity in lieu of a cash donation.
Ivan Gracia, a Tech Lead based in Madrid, has volunteered 1,500 hours for the Land Search and Rescue team of the Spanish Red Cross since 2008.
"It was part of an old debt; when my climbing partner fell, we had to call in for a helicopter. I pledge my time and financial support because of the good they do all over the world."
Ivan Gracia, Tech Lead
Shamika Abraham, a Senior Specialist on the Security team in San Francisco, planned a day for our Black Twilions ERG to engage with students at Bret Harte Middle School in Oakland, CA.
“We were able to open the students' eyes to opportunities they didn't know existed, and show them that people who look like them can thrive working in tech”
Shamika Abraham, Senior Specialist
Ricky Robinett, VP of Twilio’s Developer Network, takes full advantage of the WePledge program benefits, using paid Volunteer Time Off to support local organizations like The Bowery Mission and Brooklyn Community Services in NYC.
“WePledge is a reminder that when I give my time and money to organizations I care about, I'm not just doing it as an individual, but also as a Twilion and as a part of something bigger. I love how it has sparked conversations and action within our offices to do good together.”
Ricky Robinett, Developer Network
If you want to engage your employees in volunteering and giving, we’d love to help. Just as the Pledge1% movement gives businesses a model for corporate giving, WePledge gives employees a clear model to drive their own philanthropy.
If you’re a nonprofit looking for pro bono support or corporate volunteers, we’d love to hear from you too. We’re always looking to connect our employees to good causes.Contact Us
